EU Council of Ministers through the textile labeling regulations

July 19, 2011, the EU Council of Ministers by regulations to review the description and the EU's textile fiber labeling system.

The Regulations will be amended on the textile fiber name, label, mark use, and to determine the current provisions of the textile fiber content, which aims to improve the operation of the internal market in Europe, and to purchase clothing or textiles to provide accurate information to consumers.

Regulations will apply to textile products, which are:

l percent by weight of textile fibers at least 80% of the products;

l Textile part of at least 80% of the total weight of the furniture, umbrellas and parasols;

l upper layers carpet, mattress cover, camping cover textile parts and parts by weight of the textile accounts for at least the top or cover 80%;

l contained in other products, becoming an integral part of the textile product, its components have been identified.

Regulation aims to simplify and improve the existing regulatory framework to facilitate the development and adoption of new fiber, textile and garment industry to encourage innovation. Another purpose is to increase the transparency of procedures to coordinate the new fiber into fiber name list.

In addition, to ensure correct information consumers throughout the EU, but also an important element of the new regulations. Regulations will be mandatory for suppliers of animal origin in the labeling of non-textile parts, such as fur and leather parts.

New regulations will be clear that, when textile manufacturers and importers to the EU market, the responsibility to ensure that products labeled or marked, and the accuracy of the information on the label of the products used in a variety of fiber name, subject to weight from large to small listed on the label or tag, accounting for less than 5% of the total weight of textile products of a single fiber,Or add up the total weight of textile products accounted for less than 15% of the multi-fiber, can be classified as "other fibers."

New regulations will replace three existing directives, namely, 73/44/EEC, 96/73/EC and 2008/121/EC. The new regulation will be published in the Official Journal, 20 days after the entry into force.
